Description

This is a dramatised account of the life of Thomas Crapper, based upon many historical facts. Written by Robert Hume, who is Head of History in a Kentish grammar school, it is an entertaining read for those of any age, although the quizzes and exercises at the end of the book make it clear that it is aimed at children and teenagers. Being an historian and a teacher, the author not only keeps the reader’s attention but also provides an educational background to this story of life in Victorian Britain. The text is comprehensibly illustrated by Cheryl Ives, and youngsters of ALL ages will be amused by her depiction of Mr Crapper’s only failure as an inventor: the ‘Bottom Slapper’ spring-loaded loo seat!
In all, a great introduction to this essential subject for anyone.
